Dog Treats

Healthy Dog Treats

I love my dogs and I’m sure there are other people who enjoy their dogs too.  Here are some problems and resolutions I have experienced with my dogs.  I know that every dog is different but most dogs experience the same issues.

My Dogs:

I have 2 dogs both mixed breeds. Max is about 8 years old and is part Shepard and Lab and has a birthday coming up in November. Sandy is 2 years old and is part Bassett Hound and Lab.  During Max’s life he has experienced some heat rashes (hot spots, per the vet) on his skin.  During those time I noticed that he scratches a certain area.  The area is also hot to the touch.  His skin is really dried and irritated.  I try putting lotion on him too.  Different types of oil and even have taken him to get his fur shaved and put medicated cream on him.

I read all kinds of stuff on how to resolve this issue and have tried a lot of things to correct it.  Then my sister in law who works at the vet clinic told me to add some coconut oil or olive oil to his dry food to help his skin.  I tried that and both of them ate around the oils.  So I found another way to get them to eat the oil to help their skin, I made homemade treats.  I noticed a change in their fur and skin with some of the treats I have made.  I listed some of the treats on this webpage that seems to have helped Max a lot.  It has been a year since Max has had  a ‘hot spot’ and I have noticed that his fur isn’t as course as it use to be.

I have added some treat recipes for everyone to enjoy so don’t be afraid to copy my recipes and make them your own by adding or removing some ingredients to accommodate your dog’s eating habits.
